Also please note: we have no control over the response from the provider and can't guarantee any connection can be accommodated on the date chosen, but we'll do our best to help get it through..

The process for a rental property is the same as other properties. Simply fill in the form by entering your address, choose your energy provider and plan and requested connection date. Provide a few personal details for your account, and from there, we'll get your connection sorted!

Make sure the electricity is switched off at the mains, and ensure clear access to the meter.

Natural gas connections can take 2-3 business days, so make sure to submit your order ASAP if you need gas services connected.

Your main switch is located in your fuse or meter box. Depending on your property, your meter box could be:

• on an outside wall
• in your garage
• in your hallway
• in a kitchen cupboard

In your meter box there'll be a number of switches. Look for the one that has the "main switch" label. Some properties also have a hot water switch - if yours does, you'll need to look for that one too.

Flick the main switch (and hot water switch if you have one) to the off position (this might be shown as an | for on and O for off) to allow your electricity connection to take place.

Once your power company has confirmed your electricity is connected, switch the main switch and hot water switch back on.

A "Smart Meter", or digital meter, records your energy consumption every 30 minutes and sends usage data to your retailer. This means you get more timely and accurate bills, and can receive bills monthly.

Unlike smart meters, "Basic Meters" measure your usage from one point in time to another and are read by a meter reader every 3 months.

Smart meters generally have a digital face with numbers or digits that represent your current read data and electricity consumption.

Basic or analogue meters generally have a dial that spins around, recording your consumption in kWh.

We'll then work our magic to get you connected.

The great news is connections can be arranged in as little as 20 minutes. This is a best case scenario however, and the actual time taken will depend on factors such as your location, distributor and type of meter.

Once you submit your order, we'll provide as much advice as we can to help you be prepared.

It varies depending on your area, the distributor and the retailer. We would recommend submitting your order as early in the day as possible (before 11am preferrably) to maximise your chances of a same-day connection.

Generally, no. Electricity connections are available on business days only and excludes public holidays and weekends.

We can help you with an urgent or next business day connection, and in some cases, a same day connection. Simply fill out our digital form and we'll take it from there.

If you live in QLD, you will need to be on site during the booked appointment window to allow for the reconnection to occur. You can opt to leave your keys in a specific location instead if unable to be there.

Please note that if you request this option, the property (including garage/shed) needs to be completely vacant in order for the technician to complete the work. The appointment function in our form provides more details for you when making these arrangements.

There may be an additional fee charged for an urgent or same day electricity connection. It varies depending on your area, the distributor and the chosen retailer. Sometimes this is waived, and also depends on how soon the connection is required, whether you have a smart meter or not, and whether access to the property is required.

Once you choose your provider and connection date, any applicable fees will be shown to get your consent. The good news is, any fees will appear on your first bill. There's no fees to pay upfront.
